Sealab 2021.
The original pilot was essentially an entire episode of Hanna-Barbera's Sealab 2020, an up-with-ecology series from 1972, with new voices inserted over the existing lip flap. Cartoon Network passed on the show.
The pair moved to New York, where they worked for Showtime and USA Network, among others. Five years later, Reed and Thompson made a new pilot based on the Sealab 2021 idea and presented it to Cartoon Network. This time Mike Lazzo was actively looking for shows to fill a new adult-oriented animation block and Sealab 2021 got its greenlight. Reed and Thompson, who by this time had formed a production company called 70-30 Productions, relocated the entire enterprise to Atlanta in order to produce the series.
In September of 2003, Harry Goz, the voice of Captain Hazel "Hank" Murphy, passed away, leaving the crew of Sealab 2021 without a captain at the helm. The next season saw his son, Michael Goz, step into his father's shoes as the new captain, Tornado Shanks.
In April 2005, Sealab 2021 ended its run with 52 episodes. Whiskey Tango Six, currently in production, is the next Adult Swim project from Adam Reed, Matt Thompson and the rest of 70-30 Productions.
