When people can't resolve their differences through words, hugs or litigation, gunplay is often the next best option. It is quite amazing how credible a stupid argument can become once firearms get involved. For example, "Sir, you would be advised to step away from my girlfriend," becomes a lot more convincing when rephrased, "Step away from my girlfriend or I will shoot you in the duodenum." This is how it worked in the Old West, and the Old West had a lot going for it. Just for starters: hooking, gambling and outdoor plumbing. At least two of those things are awesome.
